We all know that Republicans don’t care about babies after they are born, but this is unbelievable.
St. Mary’s Medical Center and Palm Beach Children’s Hospital had a problem. They had a death rate three times the national average when performing pediatric open heart surgery. Two reports showed that the hospitals were not meeting the minimum standards for surgery on these patients so they did what you would expect.
No, they didn’t try to enforce standards if that’s what you naively thought. They just repealed the standards.
Political contributions had nothing to do with it, or so they say.
Florida Administrative Law Judge John Van Laningham used this logic to strike down the rules.
“In his ruling, he argued that the surgical standards were unnecessary because doctors will do the right thing because they want to, not because they are required to do so.”
Yeah, right. That explains why three times as many babies die at those hospitals than the national average.
St. Mary’s closed their pediatric heart unit last August, but Palm Beach Children’s Hospital is still going strong and Florida’s physicians are mad and deciding whether they can appeal the decision.
Meanwhile, more babies will die.
I’m seriously considering the possibility that Republicans don’t really care about life at all, they just want to push women around and tell them what they can do with their uteri.
I know, hard to believe.
